kiloX Lacquers: World Opulence Collection - Swatches and Review
Thursday, October 10, 2013
Hey guys! I'm excited to bring you a brand new indie polish company! Here is....kiloX Lacquers! Here is a little introduction to the brand straight from their site:
kiloX lacquers was started with a single goal in mind; to make a lacquer that looked like Morgan's beloved cat Kilo. A black lacquer with the perfect shimmer and green flash. After mixing and matching a franken polish that captured her heart, Morgan decided to recreate it to share with the world.
Accompanying KILO during kiloX lacquers' launch is the Rescue Collection and the Fall 2013 World Opulence collection, a collection of lacquers inspired by rich gemstones from around the world.
The first thing I loved about the brand was something I saw even before I opened the package. Their packaging! I love how their brand is stamped all over the box and I also love how they ship it IN a box! All of the polishes I received we snugly set next to each other individually wrapped in bubble envelopes.
Okay, so here is everything I received. This is the World Opulence collection featuring polishes that represent rich gemstones from around the world. Each of the polishes are a metallic finish with glitters mixed in with the exception Australian Silver and the Opulent Top Coat. All of the swatches shown below are two coats.
First we have Burmese Ruby. This is a red metallic polish with red glitters in it. Now, the glitters tend to get hidden a little bit because I think they're too similar to the red of the actual polish. In some light, the glitters will actually show but I think if the base color was darker or the glitters were brighter, it would be a PERFECT polish. Rube is also my mom's birthstone so this polish made me happy. Application was very smooth and the formula is great.
Columbian Emerald is a great green metallic with green glitters scattered in it. Again, the glitters sometimes got hidden with the base but I think the concept improves with this one. This one also hits close to home because my Dad's birthstone is Emerald. I do see me wearing this polish a lot during the Holidays.
Sri Lankan Sapphire -- Gorgeous! If I'm going to be honest, I'd really prefer this polish not to have the glitters in it. It's not bad but I just think it doesn't need it. The shade of blue for this polish is absolutely amazing and I think kiloX did a GREAT job of capturing the sapphire essence in just the base color.
Egyptian Amethyst is a light purple metallic base with darker purple glitters and light purple squares. The glitters definitely show up in this polish but the only problem I had with this one was that the squares had sunk to the bottom and even with vigorous shaking, it was hard to fish them out. I managed to get a few out and it was worth the trouble I had to go through.
So, Topaz is my birthstone [YAY November babies!] and this Norwegian Topaz polish is pretty cool. It's a burnt orange color with lots of microglitters and amber squares. Unfortunately, like the previous polish, I had to shake this one up a lot because of settling and even after I did, the squares still weren't readily available at the top of the bottle. Still, I love this polish and I will continue to work to get those squares out.
Australian Silver is a straight metallic silver. No glitters in here! It's on the sheer side but 2 coats will still appear opaque. The formula is super smooth and I had no issues with it at all.
The Opulent Top Coat is a scattered holographic top coat. The ratio of glitters to base is great. I applied one coat over Australian Silver and it was enough to add just that tiny bit of shimmer.
So, there you have it! The entire World Opulence Collection by kiloX Lacquers! What do you think of this new brand? If you like what you see, be sure to let them know! I'm sure they'd like some love so go on, visit their website and other social media sites:
